MILITARY VOTING

Are you in military service, and far away from home? Don’t let it prevent you from having a say on who represents you!

Designed to be a one-stop shop for military voting, the MRV program enables Ohio service members to more easily register to vote, request and track their ballots, and get important voting information for all elections in Ohio. Under state and federal law, military and overseas absentee ballots are mailed out 45 days prior to the election. Would you like to be kept up to date about voting dates and deadlines, and see more information about voting absentee as a Military Voter? Visit the SOS Newsletters Page for the full list of email updates available to all military contacts.

Ohio’s efforts to improve and simplify the voting process for members of the military has received national recognition. Recently, Ohio earned the distinction of being one of only 15 states in the nation to be designated an “All Star State” by the Military Voter Protection (MVP) Project. In a separate study conducted by Common Cause, Rutgers University Law School and the Verified Voting Foundation, Ohio was in the top six states for elections preparedness, earning high marks for its military balloting process.

To request your absentee ballot you must fill out and submit a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) which is included with every MRV Packet. OR, You can find the FPCA form itself on our website. You may fill the form out on your computer, print the form sign and date then send it back to the SOS office at omv@ohiosecretaryofstate.gov or mail them to your County Board of Elections.

Once you have completed the FPCA and mailed it in, you will receive your absentee ballot. Once you have mailed that in, you can track your ballot through the SOS Ballot Page, and verify that your vote has made it to your correct Board of Elections and has been counted.

Remember, your vote counts. Make sure it gets there to represent you!
